Running a local Formula 1 group has been a great way to create a lot of opportunities – from visiting Vijay Mallya’s private car collection to meeting Peter Windsor just after the season finale last month. Earlier this fall, I received a email from the Candy Store, a local car club that is home to some beautiful examples of touring, GT and F1 cars. Board member Colin Bach had organized a visit from Peter Windsor to speak to a group of the club’s members and asked if our group would like to join.
The date was less than a week after Vettel took the title, and several members turned up to hear firsthand what Peter’s thoughts were on the sport, the future of F1 in America, and what might happen when F1 returns to the US in 2012. Over 60 were on hand to hear Peter’s future plans in the sport and some great vignettes from his days as sporting director at Williams and his time at Ferrari.
Peter’s been sharing these stories and more on his new blog, The Race Driver, and you can follow him on Twitter @PeterDWindsor, YouTube, and recently on his Facebook group The Race Driver.
After his presentation and several questions, a group gathered to join for dinner, where I met Peter Rossi, father of US driver Alexander Rossi. It was a pleasure to learn what he’s been up to in support of his son, and I hope to have some time with him in the new year to learn what it’s been like managing his son’s driving career.
