Where to Watch F1 in America

Summary:

I’ve put together a Google map for searching more F1-friendly venues. This map includes several venues not listed on Meetup’s site. Contributions welcome!

“This is an epic world championship – and I hope everyone realises that this is potentially one of the best world championships ever in the history of F1. That is fantastic.” – Martin Whitmarsh

The 2010 season finale will be one worth watching – I agree with this recent article in Autosport – and there is no other experience like watching these final races with a group of fellow F1 fans.  I’ve been organizing a group in San Francisco for the past 5 years, and have seen the popularity of the sport grow in groups like ours.  The camaraderie, connections, and passion for the sport’s immediate when you’re in a room full of team jerseys and fans.  Part of what I’ve been tweeting about @F1US has been in an effort to help fellow US – based fans to find each other.

Meetup.com has been putting together F1 groups together across the country since we started in San Francisco in ’05, so here’s a map based on today’s current F1 groups.   Meetup.com charges event organizers a fee for their groups, and some of these meetups have moved to free groups and events on Facebook, or email, or word of mouth.

The SPEED tv boards have a listing of F1 groups and venues here dating from 9/2009, so I’ve put together a Google map for searching even more F1-friendly venues.Feel free to make your contributions to update this, the map is editable currently for Google account holders.  Login to Google maps, enter your venue location, and add it to the ‘F1US: F1 Venue Guide’.

As always, before planning a visit on race day to a venue you’ve not been to before, call ahead or better yet visit to make sure you’ll have a TV you can see and hear, and a time you can stop by if the race needs to be DVR’d.
